HBO's The Last Of Us Adds Jeffrey Pierce, Murray Bartlett, Con O'Neill To Cast

HBO’s The Last of US TV adaptation may have recently started filming, but it’s also still filling out its cast. Deadline is reporting that Jeffrey Pierce (Bosch), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), and Con O’Neill (Our Flag Means Death) are joining the post-apocalyptic fold.

Particularly of note for fans of the original video game series is the addition of Pierce, who voiced Tommy in the games, but will reportedly “recur as a different character” named Perry, who is only being described as a rebel in a quarantine zone. Bartlett will guest as Frank, while O’Neill will play Bill–both are survivalists living in an isolated town. Writer Craig Mazin has said The Last of Us TV show will follow the story of the original game, so speculation will likely follow about how these roles might correspond with or contrast against the source material.

In the games, players alternately take control of Joel and Ellie across a ravaged United States. Joel is a smuggler tasked with escorting a teenage girl to safety, a task that grows more daunting and complicated deeper at every step.

Actor Gabriel Luna, who plays Tommy in the HBO version, recently shared what appears to be the first image from the production. Again, we can only speculate, but the photo would suggest they are filming somewhat chronologically through the story–and maybe they’re tackling the comparatively happier times before a fungus overtakes the people in town and forces everyone to live with a highly contagious and deadly pandemic.

Check out our rundown of everything we know so far about the show’s character, story, and creative team.
